A cold engine start, for example in 30 degree frost, is equivalent to 500 km of vehicle mileage. In a cold engine, the viscosity coefficient of the lubricant becomes higher, and the load on the equipment increases.
How does cold starting a car affect the life of the starter? - For several reasons, during a cold start, the starter is the first to suffer: Thickened oil makes it difficult for the crankshaft to rotate. The battery uses more energy to start the engine. Gasoline evaporates more slowly and does not ignite easily. The viscosity of diesel fuel increases, making it more difficult for it to leak into the combustion chamber.
Engine wear during cold starts: Due to frequent cold starts, they contribute to more expensive repairs than replacing the starter and battery. The problem is that at negative temperatures all components lose volume, and the gap between the parts increases slightly. Therefore, cold starting a car helps reduce compression, as more fuel goes into the crankcase between the piston rings and the cylinder walls. Increased fuel consumption is not as bad as its consequences, because the more gasoline or diesel fuel gets into the engine oil, the faster the lubricant loses its properties. Therefore, if you frequently cold start the engine, wear is guaranteed on the following parts: crankshaft journals; main and connecting rod bearings; crankshaft support bearings.
All these parts are lubricated by engine oil, and if it loses its properties, the wear of these components accelerates.

All this together leads to the fact that cold starting a car negatively affects the life of the starter. Due to increased energy consumption and excessive load, the likelihood of insulation breakdown between the windings or their complete failure increases.
